Trade Ministry has launched low-cost markets in 33 provinces, held three to five times in each region from July 4 to August 3, 2013, an official said on Friday.
“We hope through such markets people will able to buy their needs at low prices [ahead of, and during Ramadhan fasting month],” Trade Ministry general secretary Gunaryo said in Jakarta as quoted by tribunnews.com.
The low-cost markets are supported by members of various institutions, including the Association of Indonesian Edible Oil Industries (AIMMI), Indonesia Vegetable Oil Refiners Association (GIMNI), Indonesian Poultry Industry Union (GPPU), State Logistics Agency (Bulog) and Indonesian Food and Beverage Association (GAPMMI).
“We sell basic commodities like rice, sugar, meat, eggs and vegetables and other items such as shirts, female prayer outfits [mukena], shoes, batik and snacks,” he added. (apt)
